Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Rama 2012

Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Rama 2012The lake is open! Captain Ron’s is holding the Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Rama 2012 on Saturday, April 21st.  Of course, everyone is welcome to participate.  Beginning at 6:30am, contestants will be allowed to launch their vessels anywhere around the Lake.  You will be allowed to fish until 2pm, when the competition officially ends, or until you’ve caught 10 fish (the limit per boat), whichever comes first.  The official weigh-in of all fish caught will take place at 3pm at Captain Ron’s (Lake Rd 5-50, Sunrise Beach, MO).  If you aren’t in the weigh-in line by 3pm, your fish won’t be counted.

The entry fee is $60 per team.  There is a 60% payback and all proceeds will benefit the Lebanon Hillcrest School, a local elementary school.  Prizes will be awarded after the results of the official weigh-in have been tallied.  If you and your friends are interested in joining in, you can mail in your entry form to Jason Starnes (351 Prairie Ridge, Lebanon, MO, 65536), bring it in to Larry’s Barbershop (on Madison) or you can turn it in to Captain Ron’s from 5pm to 8pm the night before or 5am the morning of the tournament.  Click here for the Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Rama 2012 official rules and entry form.

If you love fishing or simply want to go drown some worms, consider participating in the Lake of the Ozarks Crappie Rama 2012 on Saturday, April 21st. You’re sure to have a ton of fun.  But beware.  There will be no “whale tales” told here.  Polygraph tests will be given to the top 3 fishermen, big fish catcher and one completely random participant.  The story about “the one that got away” won’t help you win.  And proceeds from this fun event will be going to the local Hillcrest Elementary School.  It’s a win-win for everyone!

Home Warranty 101

Home Warranty 101You’re looking at a wonderful Lake of the Ozarks/Truman Lake home that you are very interested in purchasing.  You want to put an offer in on it.  It’s a few years old but seems to be in good shape.  However, you don’t want to be too hasty in signing contracts without having some sort of back up in case the air conditioning goes out, a pipe bursts or the ceiling fans go on the fritz.  That’s where home warranty insurance comes in to play.  What is that and how does it work?  Well, class.  Here’s a little Home Warranty 101for you.

Home warranty insurance varies from company to company.  A typical policy averages between $250 and $400.  When something in your Twin Lakes home breaks that is covered by your home warranty insurance, you call the home warranty company.  They, in turn, will call the service provider they work with.  The service provider will then call you back to arrange an appointment to come out and service the item/system.  You are only responsible for the service fee required by the service provider (usually less than $100).  Depending on your particular contract with the home warranty company, if an item cannot be repaired, they will pay for the replacement and installation of the malfunctioning item.  Check with your home warranty company first to find out what their poilcy is on situations like that.

General home warranty insurance policies cover the following:

  • Air conditioning and heating systems
  • Ceiling fans
  • Dishwashers
  • Doorbells
  • Ductwork
  • Electrical system
  • Garbage disposal
  • Interior plumbing (no water coming out of pipes)
  • Oven/range
  • Phone wiring
  • Water heater

In addition to knowing what IS covered, it is important to know what ISN’T covered. These items typically include sprinkler systems, faucet repairs, pools/spas, permit fees and costs to haul away debris or broken items from your Lake of the Ozarks/Truman Lake home.  Some companies also don’t include refrigerators, garage door openers or washers and dryers in their standard policies either.  However, most of these can be added onto your home warranty policy for an additional fee.

Just like car insurance, you should shop around with different home warranty companies to compare prices and policiesAsk your real estate agent for recommendations.  They usually work with one or two home warranty companies.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something on the policy.  Don’t sign anything until you completely understand what you are signing.  That’s a little Home Warranty 101 for you.  Please let us know if you’re interested in buying a Twin Lakes home of your own.

St Patrick’s Day Fun at Lake of the Ozarks

St Patrick's Day Fun at Lake of the OzarksThis Saturday, March 17th, 2012 is St. Patrick’s Day.  You don’t have to be a drinker in order to have a blast, though.  If you’re looking for some St. Patrick’s Day fun at Lake of the Ozarks, you’re in luck.  Here are a few events you may be interested in:

St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Water – Everyone is welcome to decorate their own boat, set it out on the lake and participate in the 21st annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Water.  The parade will begin at the 10.5MM Ozark Bar B Que and progress up and down the Gravois Arm beginning at 11:30am.  If you don’t have a boat, this is still a fun way to kick off the boating season.  After all, what’s a parade without spectators, right?

St. Patrick’s Day Parade – For the 28th year in a row, the Bagnell Dam Strip will be hosting a traditional St. Patrick’s Day parade, featuring floats and marching bands.  The parade begins at 1pm.  While you’re there, enjoy a lunch special from one of the local restaurants, including corned beef and cabbage.

St. Patrick’s Short Bus Shuffle – If you are a drinker, the Westside has a great way to go from venue to venue without having to get behind the wheel.  Beginning at 4pm, riders can hop aboard one of eight buses for just $5. Each bus will stop at 12 bars in the area, including: Bear Bottom Resort, Captain Ron’s, Deep Water Inn and The Lake House Inn.  All money raised from the shuffle will be donated to local Twin Lakes charities.

Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.  Whatever you do to celebrate, please do it responsibly.  Cops will be out in full force Saturday night with sobriety checkpoints.  You don’t want to end the night in jail or, worse yet, harming someone else.  There are several fun events scheduled at Lake of the Ozarks on St. Patrick’s Day.  Have fun and be safe.
