Lake of the Ozarks Blues and BBQ Weekend 2013

Come be a judge of the best BBQ at the Lake of the Ozarks Blues & BBQ Weekend this Fri & Sat, May 17 & 18, 2013.Nothing says “summer” like a BBQ.  The smell of roasting meat wafting in the warm summer breeze is enough to make your mouth water.  It’s also the perfect compliment to a day on the water.  This Friday and Saturday, May 17th and 18th, is the Lake of the Ozarks Blues & BBQ Weekend at Bagnell Dam.

Search the MLS to find the perfect Lake of the Ozarks home for saleWhile teams from all over the country will begin to meet up on Thursday evening, check-in doesn’t begin until Friday.  DJ Leo Case will be playing the Blues Friday evening from 5pm to 10pm and all day Saturday.  After breakfast is served on Saturday (6am to 10am), first turn in for judging begins at 12pm.  Contestants will be judged on their chicken, ribs, brisket and pork creations in the following categories: KCBS, People’s Choice, Dessert and Kid’s Q.  Prizes will be awarded to the top five placing entries in each category, with a $400 cash prize to the Reserve Champion and $800 to the Grand Champion overall.  Awards will be handed out at 4pm on Saturday.

It’s not too late to enter the Lake of the Ozarks Blues and BBQ Weekend if you would like.  Download an entry form here.  You’d better hurry, though.  Check-in is only a couple of days away.  Even if you don’t enter the contest, you can be a participant.  Just come to 1000 Bagnell Dam Blvd. this Saturday.  You can be a judge to decide which BBQ is the People’s Choice winner.  Sounds tasty to me!

Lake of the Ozarks Wine Tourism Day

Celebrate the first ever Lake of the Ozarks Wine Tourism Day at one or all three local Lake of the Ozarks wineries this Sat, May 11, 2013.Are you a connoisseur of the grape?  Is your mom?  Don’t limit Mother’s Day to just once per year.  Treat her to a unique experience at the very first Lake of the Ozarks Wine Tourism Day this Saturday, May 11th.  There are three local Lake of the Ozarks wineries participating: Shawnee Bluff Winery, Casa De Loco Winery and Shawnee Bluff Vineyards.

Not to be confused with Shawnee Bluff Winery, Shawnee Bluff Vineyards is located at 8 Tolwood Road in Lake Ozark.  They are open from 10am to 6pm and will also be holding free wine tastings.  While you’re there, you can sign up for their VIP club.

Celebrate Mother’s Day a day early or simply bring out your inner wine lover.  Come to the first Lake of the Ozarks Wine Tourism Day this Saturday, May 11th.  Become more educated in how wines are made as well as discover which ones you like the most.  Everyone’s taste is different.  Make a day of it and visit all three Lake of the Ozarks wineries.  Just make sure you drink responsibly.

Lake of the Ozarks Street Meet Nationals

Cars of all makes and models as well as trucks and motorcycles will be convening on the Bagnell Dam Strip at Lake of the Ozarks for the Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals this weekend, May 3-5, 2013.If one car show is good, two must be better, right?  Car enthusiasts of all types are in luck!  This weekend, the 25th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Street Meet Nationals comes to the Twin Lakes area.  This is the time of year when vehicles of all makes and models from around the world descend upon the Bagnell Dam Strip to create their own version of “American Graffiti”.

Search the MLS to find the perfect Lake of the Ozarks home for saleThe Magic Dragon Street Meet shuts down regular traffic along Bagnell Dam Strip during regular show hours from May 3-5.  Only foot traffic will be allowed so that spectators can go from car to car, truck to truck and motorcycle to motorcycle for an up close and personal view of some of the best looking vehicles ever made.  These vehicles will be on display both Friday and Saturday, with judging to take place Sunday morning.  In addition to the flashy cars, trucks and motorcycles, there will be live music, lots of vendors and tons of food.  Admission is free.

The second car show, Generation Next Magic Dragon, will take place Saturday, May 4th at Monarch Plaza in Lake of the Ozarks.  As the name suggests, this is where the next generation of classic cars will be.  Both imports and domestic cars will be on display.  A DJ will be playing great music and awards will be handed out to contestants, including a 2013 Chevy Camaro for the grand prize winner.

Travel between the two different car shows is easy.  So, why limit yourself?  If you love motorized vehicles of all types and ages, come to the Lake of the Ozarks Street Meet Nationals this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the historic Bagnell Dam Strip.  Visit the past and see the future all in one place.

2013 Lake of the Ozarks Dogwood Festival

The Lake of the Ozarks celebrates the Flowering Dogwood, Missouri's state tree, at their annual Lake of the Ozarks Dogwood Festival April 18-21, 2013.The flowering dogwood is the official state tree of Missouri.  This wide tree produces beautiful little white flowers that eventually turn into small groups of bright red fruit that are a favorite of local birds.  In honor of our state tree, the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce throws a Lake of the Ozarks Dogwood Festival every year.  This year marks the 63rd year in a row that they have done so.

Lake of the Ozarks Polar Plunge

Supporters of Special Olympics Missouri will be taking the Polar Bear Plunge in Lake of the Ozarks once an hour Feb 22-23, 2013 at Osage Beach. Come cheer them on!You don’t have to be a big bundle of white fur and live at the north pole to take a dip in icy cold waters. The Lake of the Ozarks Polar Plunge happens right here at Osage Beach this Friday and Saturday (February 22-23). This isn’t just to get your heart pumping, either. Those taking the plunge this Saturday will be helping to raise money for the Special Olympics Missouri. And you can help!

Search the MLS to find the perfect Lake of the Ozarks home for saleRight now, there are 12 very brave souls who have signed up to take a dip in the icy Lake of the Ozarks every hour on the hour for a full 24 hours straight beginning at 3:30pm on Friday and continuing until 2:30pm on Saturday. A 5K strut is also scheduled at 8am on Saturday at Grand Glaize Beach in Lake of the Ozarks State Park. All money raised will support the training and other programs provided by the Special Olympics of Missouri. While we have our volunteers already in place to take the plunge, feel free to show your support by cheering them on anytime during those 24 hours.

Even if you’re not brave enough for the Lake of the Ozarks Polar Plunge, you can still help the Special Olympics Missouri by making a pledge or a general donation. Just visit their website here to find out how. The plunge will happen come rain or shine. The current weather is supposed to head out of the area by tomorrow evening and begin to warm up on Friday. Lake of the Ozarks Mardi Gras Pub Crawl

A taste of N'Awlins comes to Lake of the Ozarks this Sat, Feb 16th with the Mardi Gras Pub Crawl 2013.If you couldn’t make it to New Orleans this year, don’t worry. A taste of N’Awlins is coming to the Lake of the Ozarks. This Saturday, bars around the lake will be hosting Lake of the Ozarks Mardi Gras Pub Crawl.

Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days

The 2013 Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days are back this weekend, Jan 5th & 6th. Live Eagle and owl programs, a petting zoo, rope making and a paddlewheel cruise are just some of the events planned.There’s always something to do here at Lake of the Ozarks no matter what time of year you happen to be here. That’s one of the reasons that makes Lake of the Ozarks such a wonderful place to live. Wildlife plays a large part of life here as well. This weekend, Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days is back!

This Saturday and Sunday, January 5th & 6th, the cities surrounding Lake of the Ozarks will be busy with all things eagle-related. Willmore Lodge will be hosting wild eagle viewing, a petting zoo and wood carvings of eagles. Bagnell Dam will also have wild eagle viewings, rope making, a demonstration of nest building and Dutch oven cooking demos. Osage National Golf Resort will host live programs about eagles by the World Bird Sanctuary every hour from 9am to 3pm. Hourly programs that include live owls specific to Missouri will be held at the School of the Osage from 10am to 2pm, as well as a coloring and photo contest. All these events are absolutely free to the public.

Special paddlewheel tours will be offered both days by Tom Sawyer Cruises. Tickets are just $5 per person for the cruise. Each cruise takes you around the Lake of the Ozarks’ main channel, highlighting some of the more scenic areas of the lake.

Lake of the Ozarks Christmas on Main Street

This weekend is your last chance to see the Lake of the Ozarks Christmas on Main Street in Osage Beach for the year.Christmas is not only a feast for the eyes but also for the ears. Do you have a favorite holiday song that evokes memories of Christmases past? If you love holiday music, you should consider going to one of the Lake of the Ozarks Christmas on Main Street shows.

Main Street Music Hall in Osage Beach offers great family-friendly entertainment. Their variety shows are something akin to the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with a mixture of comedy, impersonations and fantastic live music. During the holiday season, they offer a special Christmas-inspired show that blends traditional songs with contemporary favorites. Of course, comedy is never far away. But, if you want to see the Christmas show, you’d better hurry. This Friday and Saturday (December 21st and 22nd) will be the last Christmas on Main Street show performed in Lake of the Ozarks until next year.

Lake of the Ozarks Festival of Trees and Wreaths

The Camden County History Museum is holding its Lake of the Ozarks Festival of Trees and Wreaths with silent auction until Dec 17, 2012. Bid now!Christmastime is a magical time of the year. Twinkling lights brighten the chilly winter nights. Sparkling decorations can be seen everywhere. A simple fir tree transforms into a magical thing of wonder when decorated in all its holiday finery. The spirit of giving and compassion is in the air as well. The Camden County History Museum is currently displaying their Lake of the Ozarks Festival of Trees and Wreaths, which celebrates beautifully decorated trees that not only look amazing but offer something more.

Several decorated holiday trees and wreaths have been donated to the museum (located at 206 S Locust in Linn Creek) from local Lake of the Ozarks businesses and organizations to be auctioned off for their annual fundraiser. They will only be on display until this Monday, December 17th. You can go to the museum anytime from now until then to check out the different displays and bid on which ones you like best in their silent auction. After December 17th, the owners of the winning bids will be contacted so they can take their tree and/or wreath home as part of their holiday decorations. If you love holiday decorations, it’s the perfect time to visit the Camden County History Museum.
